Lance Armstrong finished second in the Leadville 100 in Colorado. Armstrong has both participated and won the Tour de France several times. The Leadville 100 takes participants on a nearly 100 mile journey throught the mountains.

Dave Wiens won the Leadville 100 by nearly 2 minutes, having done so six times in the past. While he didn’t have sufficient time to speak to Armstrong, he considered his attendance at the race enjoyable.

Armstrong has indicated that he may once again take part in the Leadville 100. However, he has said only if he is physically fit to once again tread the 100 mile course.

Both cyclists were within a short distance of each other when at one point Armstrong signaled Wiens to pass him. This was 90 miles into the race. Wiens refused and headed off. Shortly thereafter, Armstrong fell off his bike. He was not injured and thus continued the race.

About 1,000 cyclists took part in the race, which moves riders to higher altitudes as they progress. The race is sponsored by Lifetime Fitness.
