For three years, the former chief of Enron’s internet unit has been awaiting sentencing for his guilty verdict in 2004. Ken Rice was sentenced to 27 months behind bars today for his engagement in securities fraud while employed at Enron. This short sentence comes in return for his plea deal with prosecutors. Rice initially faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and fines not exceeding $1M dollars.
The plea deal that eased his sentence forced him to forfeit nearly $14M in cash and personal property including jewelry and automobiles. I don’t know, but 27 months doesn’t really seem appropriate for all the stunts this guy pulled. I mean yeah, he gave up a substantial amount of money, but that’s not going to keep him from living well once he gets out. On the other hand, many of the people which suffered from his atrocious behavior are still trying to recover. I’d give him fifteen years to really let him think about all the hardship him and his buddies caused to numerous people.
